Hot off “The Press”

The Press Club was started in 1982 in-between the then Natal Mercury and Daily News buildings, hence the name “Press Club”.

The owner Selwyn Sklarchik wanted to create an environment where one could feel comfortable for both an extended lunch meeting or a quick meal while always offering great, wholesome food packed with bold flavours.

With the menu based on the success of both Selwyn’s and Three Monkeys, The Press Club was an instant hit, journalists and business people alike enjoyed this cullinary escape in the centre of town. A familiar lunchtime scene at The Press Club was large groups of 10-15 journalists or horseracing enthusiasts eating lunch and discussing the day’s odds or politics.

Fast Forward to 2014, Selwyn Sklarchik and his son Brett have partnered up (once again after Oscars) to join the old with the new!


The Menu

A variety of meals are offered at the Press Club, bringing back all the old favourites! All day Breakfasts range from the infamous full PC Breakfast to Curries Durban Eggs - still a firm favourite after all these years.

Daily specials include wholesome meals such as Casseroles, Curries, Lamb Shank, Traditional Livers, Homemade Pies, and 300g Steak.  Popular amongst the regulards, the hearty Butternut Soup served with Homemade Toast never disappoints!  Delicious wraps, salads and fresh "catch of the day" are also available for those looking for a lighter meal. Enjoy decadent Desserts accompanied with one of the finest cappucinos that Umhlanga has to offer. And not to forget the Cheese Blintzers are back by popular demand - a definite must!
